ShimmyCare is so proud to be partnering with two incredible organizations—the American Association for Arab Women (AAAW) and the Amal Women's Training Center—who have been working tirelessly to bring aid to victims of the horrific September 9th earthquake.
The AAAW is a Massachusetts-based non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of Arab Women, empowering them through education and counseling to be leaders in their families and communities.
The Moroccan-based Amal Center is a non-profit organization that supports courageous women on their journey towards empowerment and financial independence.
Amal is located barely 30 miles from the epicenter of the earthquake that reduced villages to rubble.
The Amal Center staff quickly responded by making and distributing 13,500 meals, 50 tents, 24 solar lights, and $6,000-worth of food staples in just the first 6 days. Some of the Amal staff were sleeping outdoors themselves because their homes weren’t safe, yet they showed up each day ready to cook thousands of meals for people who were even worse off.
They are currently focusing their efforts on a cluster of 25 villages close to the epicenter, working with community organizers to identify the most pressing needs, such as providing hundreds of displaced schoolchildren with blankets, pillows, sheets, towels, soap, shampoo, detergent to wash clothes, sanitary pads, clothing and shoes!
By joining forces with Amal Center, the AAAW is able to receive non-profit donations that will go directly to help those most in need.
Please be generous in your support of these courageous women as we come together to honor the unique heritage of Moroccan music and dance.
Musicians include:
Scott Wilson
Rachid Halihal
Avram Pengas
Umut Yasmut

To honor the lives of George Floyd, Tony McDade, Sean Reed, Ahmaud Arbery, and every Black life lost to racist police brutality and vigilantism, ShimmyCare is dedicating Shimmy-A-Thon events in June to organizations and funds that are standing strong against racism and supporting Black lives.

The Movement for Black Lives launched the Vision for Black Lives, a comprehensive and visionary policy agenda for the post-Ferguson Black liberation movement, in August of 2016.
Black humanity and dignity requires Black political will and power. Despite constant exploitation and perpetual oppression, Black people have bravely and brilliantly been the driving force pushing the U.S. towards the ideals it articulates but has never achieved. In recent years M4BL have taken to the streets, launched massive campaigns, and impacted culture, society and politics, but our elected leaders have failed to address the legitimate demands of our Movement.
We can no longer wait.

Please note: THIS IS A GRASS-ROOTS EFFORT, and donations are requested via PayPal at btfacollective@gmail.com This organization is endorsed by:
The Black Trans Protesters Emergency Fund is organized by the BTFA (Black Trans Femmes in the Arts) Collective, which has joined forces with the Black Trans Travel Fund, The Okra Project, and the For the Gworls Party to organize an emergency fund for emergency funds for Black trans protestors.
Any surplus funds will be redistributed to Black trans-led orgs doing the work to minimize violence against Black trans people. Trans people face dramatically elevated risk of harm or death in pre-trial detention.
Because of systemic discrimination and criminalization that pushes them to the margins of society, trans people are less eligible for pre-trial release under existing programs. They are more likely to be assaulted in jail and less likely to get out, a lethal combination.
Please support their work at the grass-roots level with your donation.

New York City jails have become the epicenter of COVID-19 with an estimated 1 in 10 people who have tested positive while in detained in NYC jails. We strongly object to our government's decision to continue holding people in dangerous congregate facilities in these unprecedented times simply because they cannot afford to pay cash bail. In response to COVID-19, the Emergency Release Fund has expanded their mission to raise and post bail for pretrial medically vulnerable individuals and anyone who identifies as LGBTQ.
The mission of the Emergency Release Fund is to ensure that no trans person at risk in New York City jails remains in detention before trial. If cash bail is set for a trans person in New York City and no bars to release are in place, bail will be paid by the Emergency Release Fund.
Trans people experience constant injustice. Behind bars it can be fatal. It’s on us to make sure no one – not one person – falls through the cracks. We can and we will.
We need your help to save lives. Please join us.

FoodBankNYC's mission is to end hunger by organizing food, information and support for community survival, empowerment, and dignity. Food Bank For New York City has been working to end food poverty in our five boroughs for over 35 years. As the city’s largest hunger-relief organization, we employ a multifaceted approach centered on helping low-income New Yorkers overcome their circumstances and achieve greater independence.
ShimmyCare welcomes dancers of all levels, ages, shapes, sizes, and genders! We have been honored to be joined by Tandava Arts students and faculty, as well as guest dancers from all over the world.
ShimmyCare is a community of bellydancers, dance students, friends, and family, dedicated to supporting important local and global causes by sharing the art of bellydance. Currently we support Covid-19 relief efforts with shimmy-a-thon fundraising events.
